"I voted to Take Action on illegal immigration"
The federal government hasn't taken enough responsibility for the problems caused by illegal immigration. That's why we passed tough laws and cracked down on illegal immigration right here in North Carolina. This year, I voted for the following legislation.

Results
Provide greater enforcement of immigration laws by allowing state and local law enforcement agencies to give their officers the authority to investigate, arrest and detain illegal immigrants (SB 1523). Supported giving law enforcement greater ability to work with federal authorities to deport illegal immigrants who are caught drunk driving or for other serious crimes (HB 1048).
Results
Strengthen driver's license security measures by eliminating the use of Individual Taxpayer ID Number (ITIN) as as a valid identification document for drivers' license applicants (SB 602). The Internal Revenue Service issues ITIN numbers to taxpayers but does not verify their lawful presence in the United States.
Results
Prohibit state government from hiring illegal immigrants by requiring state agencies to check a federal database to verify that newly hired employees are authorized to work in the United States (SB 1523). Additionally, the Office of State Personnel will have more resources to ensure that North Carolina is in compliance with federal laws regarding the employment of foreign nationals (SB 1741).
