for Our Working Families

Marian McLawhorn understands how hard it can be to make ends meet today. That's why she's championed the issues of working people throughout her career in the North Carolina House.

  • Supported the first increase in the minimum wage in 10 years
  • Cut state taxes by nearly $200 million, providing real relief for our working families
  • Capped the state's gas tax and passed a tough new law going after gas price gougers with stiff penalties and fines
  • Supported tax credits for small businesses that provide health care coverage for their families

Marian McLawhorn is a mother, grandmother and former educator. She has as keen understanding of what it takes to give our children the very best education. As chair of the House Education Committee, Marian McLawhorn is putting that understanding to work improving our schools and getting the funding they need.

  • Increased school funding by $1.3 billion without raising taxes and is now working to make sure our students get equal funding as students in Raleigh and Charlotte.
  • Led the effort to increase teacher pay, lower class sizes and improve accountability in the classroom
  • Made sure lottery monies go to fund education and created a citizen oversight board to ensure that lottery money is properly allocated

In the General Assembly, Marian McLawhorn delivers for Pitt County.

She's championed ECU expansion, including the new Heart Center, improving the quality of health care as well as bringing new jobs to the region. She's cracking down on illegal immigration.

  • Passed legislation limiting access to state driver's licenses and state ID cards for illegal immigrants
